The pain of choosing, and the resolve to wear it.
※AVM prices were revised as of January 25, 2026.
This is an older blog post, but all listed prices have been updated to the latest figures, so please rest assured.
Good evening.cantáte Matsushima here.
AVM’s jewelry is simple, but its visual impact is off the charts.
Every line and every plane holds an indescribable force.
When I was taking photos for this blog, what slipped out was—
“This feels like equipment in an RPG that increases your attack power.”
The feeling of a “stat increase” when acquiring equipment in Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy.
Just like in that moment, the instant I slipped it onto my finger, an electric current shot through my body.

I do not usually wear rings.
Because I work with scissors, pens, and cameras, I had avoided rings that might damage my tools.
No matter how much I liked a ring, I naturally kept my distance when I thought about having to remove it for every task.
But this ring was different.
The “exhilaration without discomfort” I felt when I casually slipped it on during the shoot.
The weight and coolness settled into my body temperature, and I felt as if my breathing had deepened by one breath.
It felt as though a dormant switch inside me had been turned on.
Not decoration, but equipment.
That phrase feels exactly right.
At cliché, we display only AVM jewelry that we have seen, touched, and felt certain about in person.
So naturally, although it was an item I had handled many times, the sensation of photographing this ring felt entirely new.
This was an autumn day, but still too warm for a coat or knitwear.
Amid the frustration of being unable to change my mood through clothing, the moment I put on the ring, I heard “the sound of the seasons changing.”
Perhaps it is simply a matter of mood.
But I think that, including all of this, it is what “adornment” is about.
Gold is a mysterious material.
Though it reflects light and shines, it is somehow subdued, conveying the weight of time.
Since ancient times, people have entrusted small lumps of it with their prayers and power.
A metal that symbolizes wealth and authority, yet at the same time awakens a more fundamental human impulse.
AVM’s jewelry embodies that “balance between primitivism and intellect.”
A presence the body desires—not the mind.
And as you all know, the price of gold has now surpassed ¥23,000.
It is more than three times the price it was five years ago.
Given the current exchange rate, I believe the price has been set just about as low as possible.
If you are going to buy it, now may always be the right time.
Yet even such practical concerns about money become irrelevant when faced with this ring.
You simply find yourself quietly drawn into its radiance.
I cannot forget the words AVM designer Furukawa wrote on Threads.
it was a passage that reminded me of the “memory of nature” we gradually leave behind without realizing it when living in the city.

In a story by Ursula K. Le Guin,
“The deer appears before the hunter of its own accord. A hunter who does not understand that is nothing more than a killer.”
There is apparently a passage that reads:
While quoting these words, Furukawa spoke about the gold ring “HUNTER,” made in the city while holding both awe and longing for the natural world beyond.

“Substantial weight, inner landscapes, tenderness, strength, oneness.”
Reading his words, you can see the boundary between nature and humanity blur within the ring.
The more we yearn for nature, the farther away it becomes.
Yet nature has always existed within us, and right beside us.
This jewelry exists as a reminder of that——.
It holds something like a “prayer” that transcends design.

“In jewelry, there are forms conceived at a desk and forms that emerge from within the hands.”
When I read that sentence,
and it was not thought, but something deeper in his palms that stirred.
He learned by hand the shape of a whale’s rib bone found on the beach,
A bangle deliberately made “outside consciousness”He wrote about this.
Not a form thought through, but a form felt.
Receive the world through touch, without passing through the brain.
“A form that has been thoroughly thought through cannot expand beyond that person’s ideas, but
I believe touch and sensation that bypass the brain can take in more from the world around us.
The only way to create something you truly feel is good is to increase the odds through chance, and
The experience of letting the hands learn the work is also important.”
Reading this passage, I felt I had glimpsed, just a little, the core of his craft.
Feel rather than think.
Rather than designing, simply follow the direction led by the hands.
It is also, in some way, common to the way I make clothes.
RYTHME is a bangle born precisely from that philosophy.
It is said to have begun with learning by hand, without sketching, the curves of a whale bone found on the beach.
Not a “form conceived in thought,” but a “form created by movement without thought.”
A line chosen unconsciously by sensation rather than reason.
There is a certainty in that line, as though it drifts between chance and inevitability.

In the end, making may be an act of “increasing the odds.”
Move your hands again and again, and encounter the moment when it happens to “take shape.”
The hands gradually remember that accumulation.
Feel rather than think. Let repetition build rather than simply repeat.
I think that is the “memory” held by a craftsman’s hands.
Mr. Furukawa concluded with these words.
“Whether it’s cooking, fly-fishing, photography, or anything else, it’s all the same.”
The moment I read it, I couldn't help but smile.
That is exactly right.
Continue without thinking until your hands remember.
True creation resides only there.

The inside of the ring features astonishingly delicate engraving.
Can you see the wood-like etching?
Deer antler jewelry, too, exists as an extension of this philosophy.
A ring made using Ezo deer antler. The form is that of an armor ring.
The pattern on the surface,Expressed by burning each piece individually with a soldering ironIt does.
Of the 20 antlers, only one is suitable for use as a work of art.
And only three rings can be made from a single piece.
It possesses a rarity beyond imagination, along with the mystery of handcraft.
Within its inorganic appearance, you can sense a warmth reminiscent of the smell of earth and blood.
Depending on how the light falls, it can look almost metallic, yet when touched, it reveals an organic roughness.
It feels exactly like holding a “fragment of nature” in your hand.
Fresh yet somehow nostalgic.
It is also highly accomplished as a form, with strength and stillness existing side by side.
As a piece of “nature” placed in the city-dweller’s hands, there is no better balance.

The left is new. The right is Ishibashi’s personal piece after one year of wear.
It absorbs the oils from the hands and naturally changes to an amber color.
My hometown is also Hokkaido.
I remember squirrels along the way to school, as though they had been walking to school with us.
That is why you can understand how direct, and somehow deeply earnest, Furukawa-san’s writing is.
His base is Nemuro, almost adjacent to the Northern Territories.
Those who have never been there may be surprised, but there truly is “nothing.”
And yet within that “nothing,” there is everything.
The sound of the wind, the scent of the sea, the rustling of the trees—everything is alive.
There is a definite “raw rhythm” there that is difficult to feel in the city.

Beautiful handwritten calligraphy.
His character shines through in the handwriting alone.

A jewelry box and chamois leather for polishing the accessories are included.
AVM jewelry embodies the coexistence of these natural rhythms and human will.
Rugged yet delicate, sharp yet warm.
Though it is jewelry, it also seems almost like a “resonance device for connecting with nature.”
When you want to quiet your mind, if only briefly, amid the daily clamor.
Or when you want to be overwhelmed by the power of nature.
We hope you will try wearing an AVM ring or bangle.
Surely, you will feel a quietness as though you had touched a foreign land.
“I should have bought it” is the least stylish thing you can say.
Once you have more money to spare, your sensibilities grow duller because you no longer have to hesitate.
That is precisely why you should buy plenty while they are still beyond your reach, agonize over your choices, and make mistakes.
What clothing and jewelry can teach you lies not in the thickness of your wallet, but in the pain of choosing.
Even when you think that, you find yourself saying it again each time the seasons change.
“I should have bought it.”

AVM jewelry is surely the same.
Beyond the act of “acquiring” something lies time spent honing your sensibilities.
Small changes take root at your fingertips and over your chest.
The way you are seen, your bearing, even your presence, gradually begins to change.
As equipment for moving back and forth between nature and the city.
Quietly and surely, as tools for renewing oneself.
In a sense, the present day is an age of warring states.
Everyone moves forward wearing armor, protecting themselves as they go.
AVM jewelry may be small arms for composing oneself within the shelter of its armor.
