What image comes to mind when you think of coveralls?

Most people would answer, “a worker’s uniform.”

But when you hear the word uniform, don’t you also imagine “a crisp sense of cleanliness” and “being properly put-together”?

This coverall was tailored around that sense of “being a uniform.”

The sewing was commissioned fromThe shirt factory entrusted with cantáte shirts。

“A uniform should be crisp”—with that in mind, we decided to have the coveralls sewn at the same factory as the shirts.

The shirtmaker here is extremely meticulous.

As I mentioned before, there are so many shirts in the world with “sloppy construction” that I would not want to make shirts anywhere but here.

When you visit the factory,How much focus is devoted to a single seamI am overwhelmed by it.

Prioritizing accuracy over speed, they put care into every individual stitch.

I believe that taut atmosphere comes through directly in the refinement of the garments.

On the other hand, the matching-fabric painter pants should, conversely, be “irregular.”

while identical fabrics would ordinarily be sewn at the same factory, we deliberately split production between them.

Even though they appear identical at a glance,You can see the difference when you look inside.。

The construction was designed so that you can enjoy that contrast.

The details are impeccably finished as well.

・As with a denim jacket, the underarm seam allowances are offset for comfort, so they do not dig into the skin

And the buttons are laurel buttons.

Generic buttons born during World War II, in an era of material controlsThat is what they are.

Not logo buttons, but the so-called regular kind that could be found anywhere.

Despite being a branded item, it had to be fitted “deliberately” with generic buttons rather than logo buttons.

Although they are regular buttons, their very presence is what makes them irregular.

There is something strangely alluring about it.

The fabric is10-ounce lightweight selvedge denim。

The warp is indigo, while the weft uses gray.

Normally, the weft is generally off-white. This time, however, we chose a muted tone.

The reason is simple:The particularly handsome vintage coveralls and painter’s garmentsIt is because the weft is often gray.

I cannot say exactly why that is.

Yet, the gray gives it a more defined presence. There is no doubt that clothes like this carry a certain authority.

The wear patterns and fading that emerge with repeated wear have a character distinct from heavyweight denim.

It is light and refined, yet develops a rich, nuanced texture over time.

Taking inspiration from that design, we reconstructed it as a piece to be worn in today’s city.

 

Coveralls were originally workwear.

That is what it is now.Like a uniform, it naturally becomes part of your everyday wardrobe.。

If I had shown this coverall to my younger self as a student, I’m sure I would have said, “It’s just workwear.”

But now I understand.The more simply and impeccably tailored a “mere workwear” piece is, the more it becomes part of your daily uniform.。

Precisely because it is unadorned, it blends most naturally into your everyday life.
