How to Wear Black

There is very little of July left. Last time, I wrote that “I have been thinking about fall and winter clothes,” but summer is only just getting started. More and more customers have been coming into the store looking for something they can wear now.
As the weather grows warmer, there are colors we naturally reach for—white or blue, for example. Conversely, some of you may have a color you “hardly ever wear for some reason.”
For me, that color was black.
Black is the easiest color to pair.
People often told me that, and I thought so myself. Yet for some reason, it never felt quite right. No matter how many times I tried, something always felt off. For a long time, I could not understand why.
The other day, a photograph at a certain museum caught my eye.
A person with glossy black hair gathered up, dressed in delicate black lace. There was none of the heaviness characteristic of black in their appearance; rather, they looked truly beautiful. At that moment,
“With this way of styling it, perhaps even I can pull off black.”
That is what I thought.
What I realized then was,
It was not a matter of whether black suited me or not;It was about how I paired black.
If your hair has shine, your clothes can be matte. Conversely, if your hair lacks shine, adding a little sheen to your clothes helps the overall look come together.
I think sheen is a kind of sensuality.
If both pieces have sheen, the look becomes too glamorous, while if both are matte, it becomes too subdued. I felt that this one balance alone could make the same black look entirely different.
That is why I may not have been unable to wear black well; perhaps I simply did not know how to relate to black.

The natural luster unique to linen denim has a calm sheen that is distinct from flashiness.
It changes its appearance ever so slightly when it catches the light. That understated sheen felt very right to me.

Once you actually try it on, those words immediately make sense. It is easy to throw on, yet simply wearing it naturally sharpens the overall look. It occupies an exceptionally well-balanced position.
The Tuck Trousers, meanwhile, have a relaxed, wide silhouette. Even so, they do not look heavy, thanks to the light character unique to linen denim. You can enjoy the width while still achieving a clean impression.
Worn as a set-up, the character of the material stands out even more.
Of course, each piece works well on its own, too. Its impression changes depending on what you pair it with, so before you know it, you naturally find yourself reaching for it.
I think it is that kind of piece.

I have spoken about “black,” but this set-up was a garment that changed the way I relate to black, if only a little.
It is not simply a matter of whether black suits you; the way you style it and the character of the material can greatly change the impression.
Since realizing that, I feel I have been able to enjoy wearing black more than before.
